Bill rawls the wire gay bar

In S3E10 of The Wire, we briefly see Rawls in the background of a gay bar. Not once is it ever explicitly stated Rawls is gay and I love how nuanced the fleshing out of his character is. From Season 3 Episode 10 "Reformation" of The Wire. Here is one of the few pieces of evidence that the Deputy Commissioner for Operations William "Bill" Rawl. The suggestion that Rawls may be hiding his true sexuality in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it Season 3 moment changes his role in The Wire.

In Season Three Episode 11, Brother Mouzone's henchman is inquiring about Omar at a gay bar in Baltimore. As the henchman is leaving the establishment, we see William Rawls sitting at the bar, having a drink and enjoying himself. This, of course, is a surprise to viewers as Rawls is one of the meanest, most business-minded police in the department.

But Kima and Omar weren’t the only queer characters. Major Rawls, a gay-slur-spewing jerk, is a closeted gay man as we see him briefly at a gay bar.
